Rewards and Discipline

I believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn in the most positive educational climate, therefore the following classroom/school rules will be in effect at all times:

  1. Remain in assigned areas
  2. Keep hands, feet and all objects to yourself
  3. Respect others at all times (use kind words, raise your hand to speak, be a good listener)
  4. Use common sense (follow directions)
  5. Do your best work and honor your responsibilities

Along with reinforcement for good behavior there must be consequences for inappropriate behavior or not following our school rules. Therefore, I will be using the following color chart system. If a student’s personal color clip is on:

Green
They are doing a great job
Yellow
They are given a cautionary warning (s)
Red

They will recive a consequence -Parents will receive a note or a call from me to discuss the problem and/or a visit to the principal.

Students begin each day on the color green. If asked to move a clip, they always have the opportunity to earn it back to green by the end of the day. They will record the clip color they earned each day on their daily homework contract. If they have a color other than green they will be asked to write a brief description of the reason. This will be sent home for parent review daily. If there is a yellow or red color, parents will be asked to initial the contract.

Additionally, I recognize students who are displaying a positive attitude (following school rules, being a good citizen, doing their best work) with a WOW ticket. These tickets are put into a class jar. I pull tickets from the jar for various rewards, special activities, and prize raffles. Students can also earn and collect gem tokens for individual good behavior and responsible work.
